A Person who Had a Significant Influence on You - Essay Example It is much harder for outsiders to make their mark in an established market, and so I admire him particularly for achieving this, and for making it possible for others to follow in his footsteps. Sebastian Kaindl has always believed in my ability, and I have been working with him very seriously since 2009. At first I noticed mainly that he knew all about the various skills and techniques that a professional footballer needs to work on. I valued him for his knowledge, and I followed his instructions very closely. He invented a special training system to build explosive, fast and strong athletes, and I was extremely keen to follow this career path, and so I concentrated on the detail of the footwork, on building up speed, and understanding the difficult arts of changing direction and sprinting mechanics. These are subjects which I had found quite boring in school, but when they are understood in the context of football it becomes very clear why we need to know about them. Sebastian Kai ndl has a great enthusiasm about the knowledge that lies behind the game, and this enthusiasm is evident in all the classes that he takes. For someone who is so successful, he is also quite a modest guy. He told me that other people have done excellent work in designing training methods in the past, and that we should never give up learning how to improve what we do. He incorporated some of Louie Simmon’s techniques, for example, because thought that this was the best approach for strength techniques. I noticed also that Sebastian Kaindl takes notice of the individual needs and situation of each athlete. In the past I have taken part in training squads where one set of exercises was designed for the whole group, and no variation was allowed. This might be good for creating team spirit but it is not the best way to achieve individual excellence. Thanks to Sebastian Kaindl I have learned to believe in myself, and to push always for a training regime that is ideally suited for m y needs. The mix of exercises that I have been doing with him ranges from Boxsquatting with bands, to Olympic lifts, medicine ball work and a wide variety of different jumps. I don’t know where he learned all these different techniques, but he certainly knows how to pick them and build them into a tailor-made regime for each person. When I was younger I used to think that being good at football was all about technique and fitness. Thanks to Sebastian Kaindl’s training and personal example I have learned that there is a lot more to it than that. Some of the things that make the difference between a good player and a great player are more to do with how a person thinks. One of the first lessons I learned from him was that discipline has to come from inside yourself, and that developing self-discipline leads on to reliability, dedication continuity and all the qualities that football managers and leaders look for in their players. I have seen so many examples of exception ally talented players who have ruined their chances through lack of discipline for example in terms of sticking to the prescribed diet or attending all of the sessions. Critique of the poster Critique of the poster PURPOSE The purpose of my poster was to effectively present my research topic, describing my methodology and aims in a clear, precise manner. The poster needed to be a brief, well organised summary, organised in sequence, with an introduction, outline of my planned methodology, results, conclusion and references. http://connect.le.ac.uk/posters The poster needed to appeal to a specialist university audience of students and teachers, who would expect to view sufficient technical information. DESCRIPTION Reviewing my poster, I feel that its presentation on five single-sided handwritten pages of black type was confusing and lengthy. It was inadequate, bland and didnt indicate key points. EVALUATION Reviewing poster guidelines for creating and designing academic posters on Leicester Universitys Academic Poster website, I realised that mine failed to use good layout, short amounts of text, graphics, charts, or colour, to highlight key aspects of my outline research. (Feedback: Dr Chris Comber: email: 13.01.10) Visually, it only contained one font and one (black) colour, and some rather bland headings, so it was not appealing in its presentational techniques. Use of different fonts to highlight my title, introduction and chosen methodology may have shown that I had a more logical structure for my topic . My chosen picture an image of a primary school teacher facing a class during a lesson was an attempt to show an ‘effective teacher in control of a calm classroom situation. I feel, with hindsight, that the picture could have been more carefully chosen. The rather basic, uniform presentation could have used Microsoft Publisher with a set ‘template of fonts and colours, to give it a more professional and serious feel. My handwritten version perhaps looked rushed and hurriedly assembled and reflected my own lack of technical expertise and confidence in creating an academic poster. There were also a lack of references in support of my very general points and assertions (eg how teachers are ‘challenged; ‘lack of support; ‘teachers are blamed for everything and so on, identified in my research background. I really should have made it clear that I was outlining from professional experience as a primary teacher in Greece, or made it clear I had sourced these terms. I should also have perhaps outlined how I would collate and present my case study. I should have presented the strengths and weaknesses of such a case study, summarised into key points, more clearly. I should have referenced my main summarised points for the case study drawing a more careful distinction between personal and professional experiences and literature into ‘effective and ‘successful teaching. GM Sees Tepid Sales of New Models :: essays research papers

General Motors Corp., already bracing for a tough 2005 because of flagging truck sales, is now showing signs of trouble selling two of the new cars it had been expecting to pick up the slack this year. The company in the last week or so has increased incentives on the Pontiac G6 and the Buick LaCrosse as a result of sluggish sales, and has prepared to scale back production at the factory that assembles the G6. GM recently told workers at its plant in Orion, Mich., that it is reducing the number of cars it wants produced each hour and delaying the start of a second shift of production until after the company's annual plant shutdown in July. The company had planned to start the second shift in the spring. Paul Ballew, GM's executive director of market and industry analysis, said production is ramping up slowly at the plant because not all versions of the G6 are in the market yet, such as a model with a four-cylinder engine. "We don't get the coupes until the summer, and we don't get the convertible until after that," he said. "We've been delayed in bringing some of the the new versions of the G6 out." Mr. Ballew said G6 sales are "pretty good" but acknowledged they are "not off the charts." GM expects to sell about 6,000 G6s this month, up from about 4,000 last month, he said. The slow start of the G6 and LaCrosse sales comes at a difficult point for GM, the world's largest car maker. In 2004, GM lost market share and was forced to cut production as Japanese rivals such as Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. posted substantially higher sales of mainstream cars. At the same time, luxury-car makers such as BMW AG are expanding further into midprice segments that GM once dominated. In January, GM said 2005 earnings would fall by about a third to between $4 and $5 a share, as a result of a $1 billion increase in health-care costs, a substantial loss in Europe and lower profit at its financing arm. It is also suffering from an aging line of pickup trucks and big sports-utility vehicles, such as the Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon, that normally generate substantial profit. These sales are falling as GM prepares to launch new versions in 2006. The LaCrosse and especially the G6 were supposed to help smooth the ride in the meantime.
